I'm a long-time animal-rights vegan -- since 1984! I'm really into conversation and love getting to know people. Fun for me is going to a favorite restaurant, going canoeing or hiking, traveling to a new place I've never been, or just sitting around talking with friends. I love to joke and think the funniest things in life are the truest things. Or is it the other way around?
I'm into exercise and the outdoors, but also love what big cities have to offer. I'm an avid swimmer in pools and lakes -- and the ocean, though rarely get to the sea.
My jobs since college have been (in chronological order! what a nerd!): pastry chef (right before becoming a vegan -- and it was one of the things that motivated me to become a vegan), acquisitions editor for an academic publishing company, nonprofit activist, statistical software developer, statistical genetist, survey statistician, policy work for the State of California on inequities in mental health care, math and physics for a small high-tech company, and now a statistical software developer again. In 2017, I moved to Texas from Vermont, and am working at the same job I had 20 years ago!
I've had 3 goes at grad school: physics, math, and biostatistics, nearly getting my PhD the last time -- and might have if I wasn't spending so much time teaching vegan cooking classes and writing a monthly vegan cooking column for the Raleigh, NC newspaper. I love to cook. I wish I were a chef at my own vegan restaurant. My cooking is nothing like most vegan cooking.
I'm an INFJ on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator -- and according to that I should be a monk or a therapist -- not this science guy. I do love talking about feelings, relationships, things that really matter.
I eat cooked food! I don't think I could ever go more than 50% raw. And I do drink wine with dinner 2 or 3 times a week. I love wine!
Last thing about me: Despite being raised in Canada and the Northeast, I love hot weather. I hate A/C and love fresh air. My ideal temperature range is 80-90F!

I'm a down to earth person with a good grasp on what i think is important in life and what's not.
I would describe myself as a social introvert, but people in general think of me as extroverted, or so i've heard.
Having a sense of humour is (next to empathy) very important to me.
Almost anything that has to do with outdoor activities is great (like camping, trekking, biking etc). Some other interests of mine are animals/nature, music, cooking, movies, psychology, making stuff/be creative, politics and traveling (preferably by train or bus).
My vision for the future is to live more energy efficient and inspire people to do the same/lead by example. Besides environmental interests I have a deep appreciation and respect for all animals and that is what made me go vegetarian at age 15.
I hope to get in touch with more people who share my values in life.

I am very independent, and live happily alone. Although very close to my 3 adult children, they all live away from home now. I enjoy gardening, hiking, kayaking, skiing (down-hill, but learning cross country now), cycling, sailing, swimming (just about any water pursuit), staying fit, dancing (jazz for fitness as it boosts endorphins more too), art, spending time with my kids and a few good friends, dining out, reading, music (especially old jazz, R&B, punk, classical, blues, and a wide variety of rock), good films and thoughtful series, just spending time alone, with my kids, great friends or otherwise, and at home puttering, DIYing, working out, or relaxing.
I am an avid environmentalist and been either vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian for over 45 years, engage with other ecological and equality issues including those of non-human species, but still work in a little time to travel (albeit very little because of the footprint) and just chill. I still work full-time, although am able to do much of my work from home with relatively flexible hours. I am lucky and that my work allows me to keep up with most of the social and ecological justice issues I care about, and current ecological science information.
My pictures are very recent, although the profile picture is well lit so seems to de-emphasize fine lines. I do look young for my age. Fortunately, I have never bothered to perfect taking selfies so just don't have many current photos, just loads of my kids, cats, or things I want to paint. In the photo with the attractive woman in white, I am not her. I am the smaller woman beside her in black. She is my sister, much better at getting her picture taken, but not single, and she does eat other animals :)

I’ve been an ethical vegan since 1989, vegetarian for a few years before that. Living a vegan lifestyle means as much to me as ever, essential to combat environmental harm and animal cruelty. It's important to me to live by causing as little harm as possible. I’m from a rural area, grew up with farm animals and have a love and respect for wildlife, passionate about the conservation of the natural environment. We use a remote camera to get great wildlife footage, especially of badgers. I enjoy cooking a variety of healthy cruelty-free recipes. I’m quite creative doing a bit of drawing, painting, needlework and crafts, liking a challenge to make unique things. I have an autoimmune joint condition that restricts my mobility, but I still love getting out and about with the help of a wheelchair and my carer son. I enjoy trips to the theatre, museums, galleries, parks, the seaside, nature reserves, watching films and quality TV, especially science fiction, such as Star Trek. I like reading: Kurt Vonnegut, sociology, cultural history, philosophy, science, researching and writing local history.

I am outgoing, friendly and enjoy doing social things when with a partner. I find when I am single I tend to stay home more, which I also enjoy very much. Movies, hiking, good conversation and being outdoors are a few things I enjoy doing. Most often I am found at home because my property has become a mini-sanctuary for several species of birds. Plus I share my home with rescued cats and am active in TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return).
Spending my time outside with my sanctuary residents is fantastic. Plus it is so beautiful here and the weather is great.
My serious side also involves maintaining my health. I worked as a pharmacist, but I am more of an anti-pharmacist! Prevention and acquiring good habits are the keys to a vital life. I worked in hospitals and know that western medicine can play an important role as well.
I was raised in Brooklyn, NY, lived in NJ and now live in the southwest since 2004. Love the climate here, preferring sunny dry days to the cloudiness and humidity of the northeast.

I am a self funded retiree, I stopped the so called "Work" several years ago, when I reached my goals.
I like many things, but most of all my freedom. Most people will say that they are free to do what they want, but they are not really free, tied to work, mortgages, religions, governments, customs etc.
I have already lived on a sailing boat for 5y, done a circumnavigation, seen more beautiful places that most 'normal' people could see in several of their lifetimes.
I miss that.
Other things I like are: diving, swimming, yoga, trekking, astronomy (not astrology....), cooking, cycling, photography, music, debating, life in general, but especially sharing my live with a like minded woman, occasionally losing ourselves in erotic tenderness.
I don't like TV, fashion, the news, politics; in a word, the Norm.
I like having fun... by nature, I am an introvert, but I learned to be extrovert if the situation calls for it, I know a million jokes and love telling them, I can act as a child and lough at silly things and I don't care who is watching and what they think of me.
I am my own boss, but I am tuned in to the need of others and am happy to help wenever I can. I know how to be a gentleman and make a lady fell liked and needed.
I know that there is a lot that I don't know, hence I am always learning something.....

I'm Holden, an independent living specialist working to improve the lives of other people with disabilities. (Mine is Autism.) I recently got my own place and have been furthering my career and now I want to meet someone. I've been a lifelong vegan so meeting someone with similar values is highly important to me.
I like to play video games, read books (especially manga books, my most recent was Chainsaw Man), design/mod games, exercising (trying to build muscle and stay healthy, not necessarily to lose weight), talking with friends online, and spending time outside such as going on walks. I also like cooking, and I would make my partner delicious vegan meals. ;)
Mutual respect between romantic partners and friends is extremely important to me. I will always respect your boundaries and will never attempt to pressure you into anything you don't want. Your comfort and happiness will be important to me.

I spent my early childhood in New York (more precisely, Long Island), but my teen years were in eastern Florida. Since I disliked the heat, I’m happy here in Chicagoland. Plus I get to see all four seasons, various types of trees, and even some hills. I even like the cold, since it’s a good excuse to dress comfy and snuggle in front of the TV.
I have two adult sons, both of whom live in Chicago. But I’m not alone; I live with two cats. It’s a bit strange since I’m just crazy about dogs and their joyous energy, but my cats are pretty cool, too. Both were strays that I trapped for a trap-neuter-return program, but their purrs and fondness for human affection made it clear they weren’t truly feral. So now I serve them. And I named them after gods that fit their history and personality: Kali, the Hindu goddess of destruction and protection, and Odin, the Norse god of poetry. (He’s super vocal.)
I’m pretty fortunate with my career since pretty much each day I get to promote what I value: critical thinking, seeking truth, being compassionate and fair, and making a difference. It’s rewarding to help someone open their mind and improve their life.
When I’m not working, I enjoy walking in forest preserves, especially when I get to see wildlife. Or sifting through items in a thrift store (or flea market, or used bookstore), not usually as a hunt for something specific, but in anticipation for finding something amazing. When relaxing at home, I tend to watch a good TV show, read a book, sometimes work on a jigsaw puzzle. But I’m also game for road trips, exploring new places, going to museums . . .
At core I still have a childlike sense of curiosity and playfulness – and I’m looking for the same in a partner. Someone with a deep sense of kindness and a willingness to change their mind based on new information. I value honesty, emotional openness, supportiveness, and a desire to work through issues via communication and compromise. I also care about being fit and healthy, so I have a commitment to exercise and eating well.
To clarify my selection for 'Religion': I'm an atheistic Buddhist – in the sense that I embrace the ideas and ethics, but not in the sense that I make devotional offerings to a Buddha altar.
